May 11, 2011 at 8:31 pmHi Claudia,
My genetic counselor and friend in Vail, CO sent me your website. I have really enjoying browsing through all of your information. I also am BRCA1 positive. I found out a little over 3 years ago, I am 28 years old now.
My mom has had breast cancer twice and is currently going through her 4 th round of chemo , just on ovarian cancer. It has been quite the journey for her. Both breast and ovarian cancer are extremely strong from her side of the family.
This past March 2011, I decided to have my ovaries and uterus removed for preventative reasons. Of the interviews I have watch which you posted, I can relate to many of your concerns and thoughts. I am not married, nor do I have anyone significant in my life, which made this decision extremely hard. But what it came down to for me was my health and being able to live the life I want to live.
I am so excited about your blog because this entire experience has made me want to be more involved, start a blog, and just get more young women connected who are BRCA1. I wished I had a young unmarried woman to talk about the experience with having these surgeries. I hope to start getting more young women connecting through the web/ phone/ whatever. Some forum for discuss, support, etc.
But I wanted to say I think it is so wonderful and inspiring that you have started your blog! Thank you for starting it. If you were ever interested, I would love to chat more with you about our experiences and who knows what else can be created!
Best wishes to you,
Christa Nenaber
