Bravo, Claudia! An inspirational documentary which shows a very serious choice made by an extraordinary young lady. Hoping that more women with this gene take your advice…to live more fully! Congratulations for taking the lead.

Claudia, I had a bilat mastectomy with reconstruction at the age of 23, I don’t know if genetic testing was available back then (1986), mine was based solely on family history and the fact that my breast tissue was so dense and cystic that if I had gotten cancer it would have never been detected in time to save my life…everyone I spoke to in the medical profession kept stressing to me this was “Elective” surgery..100 percent my choice…the way I saw it, there wasn’t any choice, I could get breast cancer, die a slow painful death, or i could live a seemingly long life without my breasts…I chose to live. I honestly don’t worry I will get breast cancer as both my grandmothers, all six of my aunts and my mother did, I worry about my daughter having the gene, but I also have the relief of knowing that now she can be tested for that gene and make a wise informed decision as you did. I applaud you Claudia, good luck with your surgery and I wish you a speedy recovery and a long life …cancer FREE!
